Lisa Allen started a career in the wine industry by chance in 1996 and the rest as they say is history. It all all began after meeting people in the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association. While an unlikely place to start a wine career, it would prove to be the perfect place to gain the big picture of "vine to wine" by meeting researchers & educators, grape growers & winemakers, equipment suppliers as well wholesalers. It would be that last segment of the industry that would wind up providing the best opportunity for her.
In late 2002 she travelled to South Africa for the first time where she met several wine producing families that were interested in gaining exposure in the US market. Without knowing anything about importing wines, she identified an import partner based in New York and established Big Boat Wine Co., a wholesale company. And in 2005 began selling those boutique wines in Georgia. For the next 8 & 1/2 years she diversified the portfolio to include more than 350 unique wines from throughout Western Europe, the US West Coast as well as the Southern Hemisphere and built a seven-person sales team. By the end of 2013 she was able to sell the company to Savannah Distributing Co., which was looking to increase it's portfolio of Fine Wines. Lisa managed that merger for 2 & 1/2 years before stepping away and returning to her entrepreneurial roots to start Wine Insite where she offers expert guidance for accounts interested in control and private label brands for the Georgia market.
When she is not sharing a bottle of wine with friends or colleagues, Lisa enjoys playing tennis, swimming, cycling, hiking and travel.
